Amazing Austria…. Well Vienna….

Amazing Austria…. Well Vienna….

Seriously! It really is. There are a few places I would happily move to and Vienna is right up there. Not just because the architecture is amazing or the food and beer is fantastic. Its the people. They way they all get along and so many different ethnicities and religions.

Though I didn’t have time to laze about too much. I was here to meet some friends after all and we were going to listen to some music from a local band and have some drinks and food. Let the fun Begin!

The great thing about travelling is meeting new people in your travels, but also catching up with them down the road or visiting them in their home country. So was great to see them again. We went to see a local band. The cool thing about this band was they did their own take on local folk songs. Of course this was all in German and so didn’t understand a word of it. This didn’t stop me having an absolute blast and even managed to sing along to a couple. What made it even better was starting to drink German and local beers accompanied by schnitzel!

Next day I had a day to wonder about and go check out some of the local sights and to be honest there are a few. One thing I learnt along the way is google maps is no help in Vienna. It doesn’t connect and show the trams or subway only the main railway so what should have been a short trip to the amusement park was a pain in the butt.

I finally ended up at this amusement park which is famous for having the oldest working Ferris wheel in the world. So obviously this means have to go have a ride. Cant say it was the greatest to be fair but had some epic views over the city and was worth it just for that.

After which time for food. It was time to find a German hotdog! Yes it was good and filled the gap once you added some donuts and a few other things as well in the park, cause you know I have a massive sweet tooth.

Walking through Vienna is fricken amazing. Looking at the old buildings and architecture is just stunning. Not to mention all the statues its something I came to love about the city and just made everything just stand out. Like walking past the cathedral and also the palace were epic in size but also detail.

Walking around at night is great as you feel totally safe and things look just as amazing at night.

The next day was a chill out day. Even better when your friends parents have a holiday lake house which was great also with absolutely mint weather made for a great day to relax and swim in the lake.

On the Sunday was the day we were going to a free music festival. We planned it out and had a great lunch of proper Local type of schnitzel which was pretty damn good followed up with some nice local beer. Yet as we arrived at the festival, which by the way is on a man made island in the middle of the Danube river, it started to rain. Luckily my friend packed some plastic poncho’s for us to wear and even though it rained the whole time we were there was still a great time. Everyone was enjoying themselves and was open to pets and made for something I really enjoyed seeing. Something I felt was lacking back home and something I which id like to see more.

The next day was my last as I had made a choice to head to Edinburgh earlier than intended to start looking for work and a place to live. I promised the girls id go see one of the major tourist attractions the Schonbrunn Palace and you know what? Was well worth it. This place was massive with amazingly huge gardens and it even had a zoo inside the compound! It also had epic statues and fountains and more amazing buildings you can appreciate.

Throw in a massive burger and a few more beers to finish up my night in Vienna and I really came away that I could easily live here. But I had other plans and was time for me to step back into reality and make my way to Edinburgh.
